State House, 17th District
C.B. Embry Jr. Republican

Profession: Retired educator, law firm administrator, businessman, newspaper editor, judge/executive and mayor. Serving my fourth term as 17th District State Representative.

Education: Graduate of Western Kentucky University.

Family: Married with three children.

Organizations: I am an active member of both the Grayson and Butler County Chambers of Commerce, the Grayson County Anti-Drug Coalition, Twins Lakes Right-to-Life, the Morgantown Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors, the Butler County Youth Development Center's Advisory Council, the Butler County Tech. Center Advisoty Council, The Butler/Edmonson Gideon Camp and am the Chairman of the Deacons at Morgantown First Baptist Church. During my lifetime I have been elected as president or chairman of 17 different civic or community groups.

Experience: I have been active in Frankfort for over 41 years having served as Mayor of Beaver Dam and having spent 12 years as Ohio County Judge/Executive and four as Asst. Judge/Executive. House Leadership, who names all committee officers from legislators they respect and who they know show leadership skills, have named me vice chairman of the House Agriculture & Small Business Committee. I have also been named to represent the Kentucky House of Representatives on a national and a regional (15 states) legislative committee.

Why Running: I treat other legislators with courtesy and respect, never making personal attacks on them or others. This style has allowed me to get agreement from the Leadership at the highest levels of both major parties for improvements together totaling in the millions for requests made by 17th District fiscal courts, city councils, water districts, Boys & Girls Club and the White Mills Civic League during the past eight years. In addition to my legislative committee meetings, I attend 12 to 16 meetings or community events every month, year-around, somewhere in the three counties that make up the 17th District. This allows me to be in tune with the majority opinions of 17th District citizens and to vote those majority opinions in the Knetucky House of Representatives.

Top Issue Beliefs: Supporting legislation that protects fundamental moral values, the development of private sector jobs and supporting family farmers, as well as educational training at all levels.

Les Russell Democrat

Family: Married with two children and one grandchild.

Experience: 31 years of lobbying experience in Frankfort on police issues.
Many contacts in the IRC and legislature that have resulted in many bills passed through the years.
Recent appointment to Gov. Task Force on pension reform and healthcare reform.

Why Running: We have not had an effective state rep. for the past eight years because my opponent has made himself irrelevant in Frankfort. He embraces very extreme views that has cost him respect of his fellow lawmakers.
He doesn't understand we need new jobs in the 17th Legislative District not non-sense legislation that he can't even get called in committee.
Eight years of keeping the seat warm with no results is enough. It's time to elect a person that will work with both parties to achieve jobs for the district.

I want to restore integrity, openness, and fairness to the political process. I want to stop the excessive spending that has taken our country and our commonwealth into financial peril. I want to use my business experience to create jobs to increase revenue rather than increase taxes. I want to bring a
common sense business approach to government leadership.

Job creation to create revenue rather than tax increases.
Honesty and full disclosure on the part of government representatives to the citizens they represent.

Jimmie Lee Democrat

Profession: Retired car dealer; 25th District State Rep.

Education: Graduate of Ahrens Trade High School

Family: Married with one child and three grandchildren

Organizations: E'town Lions Club

Experience: Eighteen years in the State House and the standing that I have with both parties. It would take someone, if elected fresh, 12 years to get to where I am now; I am the only elected official from Hardin County in the House levels of leadership; I serve on various committees and chair the budget review committee. I sit on all major committees.

Why Running: Many issues need to be addressed. Many projects need to be finished. My experience gives this community the best chance to accomplish the unfinished work, such as BRAC and the development of the south end. We do not need to lose my seniority and standing in Frankfort.

My final assignment was at Fort Knox where I served with the 1-16 Calvary until my retirement in 2004.

I am a small business owner and began my integration into the local civilian community at a very rapid pace before my military service ended in 2004. In 2002 I became the Majority Owner, President and CEO for Bedrock Training Company, now Column6, LLC, an Information Technology / Training company, and owner of C6 Café Inc. I am an employer for many Hardin County Residents and surrounding areas. I immediately became involved in the Radcliff Rotary Club and the Radcliff Chamber of Commerce.

I was recognized in 2005 as an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. I am a National Rifle Association (NRA) member, Military Officer Association of American (MOAA) member, and the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) – Life Member.

My diverse upbringing and personal struggles have conditioned me well for this challenge. I was not born with a golden spoon in my mouth; in fact, I was born without a spoon! I will take my life experiences coupled with my organizational and small business experiences to foster an environment where businesses grow and our community prospers.

Why Running: I did not see anyone moving in the right direction for Kentucky, so I prayed and felt called to pursue the office of 26th District State Representative. Like so many across our district, I am concerned with the direction our state is going. I feel Kentucky needs less lip service and more positive action. Leadership is not just a position, it is action! I have witnessed support waver when action is needed; I assure you there will be “NO WAVERING WITH ALLAN FRANCIS!”

Together we must create jobs as well as promote and protect our small businesses. We need to secure a prosperous future for all families. We should fully support our soldiers and their families at FT. Knox, and rest assured that the treatment of our Veterans is a huge concern for me. All life is priceless – whether that life belongs to a soldier, a military family member, the elderly, the disabled or the unborn. I am a Pro-life candidate. I also believe strongly that education is paramount. I am a walking testimony to the benefits of a good education and will tirelessly work as an advocate for better resources for our teachers and children. I come not as a politician, but a servant leader that demands the very best for our state and district. If positive action is what you think Kentucky needs, send Allan Francis to Frankfort!

Why Running: To continue advocating for what is right for Kentucky and Hardin County. We are blessed with a local economy that is full of opportunity and promise. As a conservative, I see my job as helping folks in Hardin County seize those opportunities as they work, grow their businesses, and raise their families.

Top Issue Beliefs: Life
Uphold the sanctity of human life—the first of the three unalienable rights Mr. Jefferson recognized to be endowed by our
Creator.
Just as the abolitionists of 150 years ago, I advocate for life based on the deepest conviction to this guiding principle.
This is not a mere “issue”, it is a core principle.

Liberty
Protect the liberty that has allowed generations of Americans to reach their own potential and made our nation the envy of the
world.
This might sound like a “pie in the sky” goal, but it too motivated our founders to revolt against oppressive Government.
When sitting legislators in Frankfort declare that “the public need must trump individual rights”, and officials in Washington
erode the very rights that countless Americans have fought to preserve, we must realize that this cause must be continually
championed.
And, as I have demonstrated throughout my tenure in office, the service and sacrifice of those veterans sworn to defend those
liberties must be honored.

The Pursuit of Happiness
Opposing unnecessary state tax increases—even when labeled “revenue enhancements” —so that the people of Kentucky are able to
pursue and secure their own happiness.
Again, too many in office believe that it is proper to increase tax on businesses so that Government can provide jobs. They believe that “churches, charities, businesses, and individuals don’t do anything to help people—you can only count on Government.” This makes a mockery of the very ideals annunciated so eloquently in our Declaration of Independence.
Government can and should create an environment where job opportunities abound, and where economic development thrives. I have worked to make that happen in Hardin County and throughout Kentucky.
